Dutch Oven Peaches And Dumplings

Dutch Oven Peaches And Dumplings

Dutch Oven Peaches And Dumplings is the sort of easy laid back dessert that you can end up taking for granted. It isn’t until you are staring down at an empty plate that you come to realize just how awesome the subtle vanilla and lemon zest infused syrup was and how it clung to the just sweet enough dumplings. You’ll be wishing that you had more!

The Peaches

  • 6 Peaches, Pitted and cut into  pieces
  • 1/4 C Regular Sugar
  • 1/4 C Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Zest of 1 Lemon
  • 2 C of Water
  1. Combine all the ingredients and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

The DumplingsDutch Oven Sweet Dumplings And Peaches

  • 1 C All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Tbs Baking Powder
  • 1/2 C Whole Milk
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tbs Melted Butter
  • 1/4 C Regular Sugar
  1. Combine all the ingredients to form a soft dough.

Dutch Oven Peaches and Dumplings: Putting it all together

  1. Pre-heat your Dutch Oven to 350 degrees (here is a handy chart to figure out how many coals to use for your size Dutch Oven).
  2. Pour the peach mixture in and  bring  it to a boil.
  3. Once the peach mixture is boiling, spoon the dumpling dough onto the top.
  4. Let the peaches and dumplings cook for 15 minutes. The tops of the dumplings should just be turning a nice golden brown.
  5. Remove from the heat and serve with vanilla ice cream!

The Wrap-up

This dessert is best in the peak of the Summer when peaches are at their freshest. The peach mixture also makes basis for a mean peach cobbler.

This and a bunch of other recipes can be found on my Dutch Oven Recipes page, check it out!

I will also make a note when I share.
I have used similar recipes in what we might consider cobbler. What I like about this is it’s simplicity. Even someone new to DO cooking can do this and look like a pro. My only addition might be cinnamon to both the peaches and the dough.
Again an easy camp recipe……. I can smell it even now…

This is really similar to the crock pot peach cobbler I made for Serenity (my gf). Which by the way was delicious even though she said it needed butter and that I should have used canned peaches instead of frozen organic ones..

I’m not adverse to using canned peaches but fresh or frozen just taste better!
