Leatherman Juice S2, Gear Review

Leatherman Juice S2

I’m the proud owner of a Leatherman Juice S2, since I’ve been carrying  it for a few weeks now, a gear review is in order.

Leatherman Juice S2

The Juice is noticeably smaller than my other Leatherman I have hanging around (the excellent Charge TTi) and fits comfortably in a the little pocket on a pair of jeans. Smaller in this case doesn’t mean of limited value.Where the Juice excels is you will have this on you when you need it.

Fit and Finish

The smooth anodized aluminum slabs are attractive and sturdy. I purposely got this one in a bit of a loud color as sometimes my knife collection screams danger a little to much and I felt the shiny orange color would help remove a bit of the drama from using this tool in public. My only gripe about the Juice when it comes to fit and finish is that it is a little to tight from the factory. I’m hoping it loosens up with use.

Utility

The Juice has a lot going for it tool wise. I chose this version because I like having the pliers on my multi-tools the best. The blade compares favorably to any found on a Swiss Army Knife, and while not made out of usual wonder steel preference it gets the job done. The can/bottle opener works well as I’ve tackled a few microbrews with it and a big can of sauerkraut, It handled both jobs with aplomb. Where I did find the Juice a bit lacking is in the scissors. I know on a multi-tool this small there are compromise but the scissors just didn’t do it for me. The cut but the return spring could be stiffer to make them have a bit more utility. The plier/wire cutters are excellent as I’ve come to expect from Leatherman, they handled the chores I’ve thrown at them so far. The screwdrivers are, well, screwdrivers. They work fine and come in handy but it is hard to get to worked up over them.

X-Factor

For it’s size the juice S2 is just about perfect. I ordered mine with a sheath but, in my opinion don’t bother, this thing was made to ride in that little extra pocket in your jeans. The one on the right side that nobody living has any clue what the hell it does. Well now I can tell you, it should be renamed the Juice Pocket, because that is what you should have in it…No excuses!

I’m guessing from reading this you can tell I’ve got a bit of crush on my Juice S2, my advice is get one you won’t be sorry!

One of the tips of my pliers chipped off. I should probably send them back to Leatherman as I understand they have a great warranty. But I never bothered. It’s also hard to get the flat-bladed screwdrivers out unless you have very strong fingernails. This is mostly nit picking. It’s a pretty good multi-tool. But I find myself using my Squirt S4 a lot more.

I’m hoping mine loosens up a little bit. I’ll have to check out the Squirt.

Very nice review Mike! My Juice Pro is still pretty tight after several years. I need to use the tweezers to deploy the screw drivers since my finger nails won’t do the job. I have no complaints about the return spring on my scissors but it did get gummed up once after using it which caused it to be less “springy”. I also attached an Inova Microlight to mine via the tiny fold out lanyard loop using a small keyring.

The little jeans pocket is for change.

That is a good idea to attach the flashlight.
