Self Watering Container Update

July 17, 2011 By Mike

I ran into a bit of a problem with the Self Watering Container I built last month. The PVC tube I used to fill the water reservoir was a bit to small to easily fill. I was going to buy a funnel and be done with it but I felt that would be the easy way out. I was able to re-purpose a .5L Poland Spring bottle. I cut the bottom off and it slipped on perfectly.

This has made a world of difference and free too boot!  I also added a garbage bad as a kind of mulch. I found that the soil was getting dried out way to fast. I wish I could score some lids to go with my free buckets, as I would use those instead of the bag.

The heirloom tomato I planted in the container is doing well.
