Food Production Systems for Backyards and Small Farms. A Review: The Finale

Well I’m wrapping up my review of Backyard Food Production’s DVD Food Production Systems for Backyards and Small Farms. I’m guessing by now you are realizing just how impressed I am by this product. It laid out a good macro view of how one family went about turning their farm into a highly productive and self sustaining system where all the parts seem to make sense and work in harmony. My only complaint would be that most of the sections could be expanded into hour long DVDs in there own right. Let me finish up and then I’ll tell you how to get in on this giveaway!

One of the last sections covers dogs on the homestead. The narrator (who is also the owner Marjory Wildcraft) tells us why she chose to have dogs on her property. She puts them to work! These dogs aren’t just the family pet. They are expected to carry their own weight by protecting the livestock and even by pitching and pulling some carts around  (I should show my dog just so he knows that there is something else in this world besides sleeping!).

The DVD also goes onto cover perennials, orchards, and even some edible landscaping. The CD-ROM that is included blew me away. Marjory references it while giving her tour of the property, but seeing it on the tv and getting to poke around in it are 2 different things. I think the CD could be a stand alone product.

I was really very impressed by this product. I can wholeheartedly recommend to anybody who has interest in ramping up there own food production and gaining a measure of self sufficiency.

Sorry I missed the contest, because I was thinking about buying this DVD. You are one of several people who have talked about how informative it is. Plus, I heard a couple interviews with her, and I was impressed by her breadth of knowledge.

I guess I’m just gonna have to get it!

Marjory is truly great. She is inspiration for people to learn how to grow their own food. It will even come in handy when disasters happen and there is a food shortage, like an EMP. Marjory is going to actually be on a radio blog show Wednesday January 18th, 2012 to talk about these things. It should be really great to hear, here’s the link to listen: http://empactradio.org/pvp/episode84-marjory-wildcraft/
