 Pork Rub

When a big event rolls around it is time to whip up some of The Backyard Pioneer Pork Rub. This is the rub recipe that I’ve settled on after a few years of trial and error, it is really well received by my family and friends.

The Backyard Pioneer Pork Rub

  • 1/4 c Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 c Paprika
  • 1 Tbs Coriander Seeds
  • 1 Tbs Black Peppercorns
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seed
  • 1 Tbs Chili Powder

  1. Toast the Coriander and Cumin in a skillet
  2. Grind the Coriander, Cumin, and Black Pepper in a Mortar and Pestle
  3. Add the Brown Sugar, Paprika, and Chili Powder into a food processor, and give them a few pulses to get them mixed.
  4. Then add the freshly ground spices into the food processor and mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes uniform.

This rub is great on all pork! I use it on ribs, pork butts, and chops. It goes great with a vinegar based BBQ sauce and one of our favorites is to rub it on chops, grill them, and then add BBQ in the last minute they are on the grill. It really adds a nice depth of flavor.
